Carey Jones and John McCarthy are the authors of Every Cocktail Has A Twist and Be Your Own BartenderJones also wrote Brooklyn Bartender, was the managing editor of the James Beard Award-winning website Serious Eats, and has written about food and spirits for Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, Vogue and other publications. McCarthy, a mixologist and spirits writer, cowrote the Food & Wine “Liquor Cabinet Roulette” column with Carey Jones. He has appeared on Good Morning America, Today, and The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and other publications have profiled him and his work. They live with their children in Sonoma County, California.

We think the Bienville is like Jacques’ cooking style; unpretentious, unfussy, well-done and delicious. It is a riff on the classic French 75, this heady Cognac version assumes a floral hint from the elderflower liqueur St-Germain and elusive anise notes from Peychaud’s Bitters. Complex and worth savoring, it’s an after-dinner drink for sure.
